Pre-Operative Instructions for Patients Having Implant Surgery

1. In office only under local anaesthetic, it is advised that all patients eat before surgery. If you are having I.V. Sedation or being given general anaesthetic, do not eat after 10 PM the night before. Some medications may be administered prior to surgery and may cause nausea if taken on an empty stomach.
   
   
2. You will be given a prescription prior to surgery. It is advisable that this be filled prior to surgery. If you have any noted reactions (allergies) to any medications, please notify Dr. Kupeyan if you have not done so previously.
   
   
3. Please ensure antibiotics are taken prior to surgery. You may be required to start the night before the day of surgery. Take two tablets before bedtime. Please take a third tablet the morning of the surgery and then one tablet in the evening of the surgery. Please follow the instructions given for antibiotic coverage. It is very important to finish all of this medication.
   
   
4. For your comfort, if you wish, you may be given oral sedation (a medication prior to surgery for relaxation). If this is the case you must arrange for a ride home after surgery.
   
   
5. Wear comfortable clothing.
   
   
6. Refrain from smoking since this negates the warranty due to a 40% increase in the implant NOT integrating.
